Why so serious?

What is with people? I was dwelling in the warm fuzzy feelings of the New Year only to discover that while I was away alot of people I know and knew became jerks.. Why do people take themselves so seriously?

I'm sure everyone has had the pleasure of knowing someone who gives them advice when not asked, complains about everything, makes reference to the many reasons why they are better than you, proclaims to be an expert in a subject they know absolutely nothing about and generally behaves like they have had something surgically put up their...

Is it so horrible to say, " I dont know." I say it alot. Why make an idiot of myself talking about something I have never heard of in my life. Seriously, I'm in IT. The chances I dont know everything are pretty high :)

And honestly, thats what I'm liking about 2009. Its a year of challenge. I feel like there are a million new things I'll be learning this year and yes, I am excited. So if you do wish to give me advice on a subject that you know nothing about, I suggest you get ready... because this year I'll be asking lots of questions....

i like your last paragraph...it shows how talking about things we know nothing about is a cyclial phenomenon for all people, sometimes we ask questions to other folks who give us the wrong info and other times we are giving the wrong info to others who ask us questions...i think our tendencies to misinform others stem from our own desires to feel needed/important...i am no psychologist, but this makes sense to me...in my own life, my advice has been praised on some occasions while i have been told to buzz off on other occasions...i think mood effects whether or not we receive advice, my friends and i don't like for someone to give us advice when we are angry or upset...it makes it seem like the unwanted advisor is "rubbing it in"...lastly, no one is better than you, don't let anyone tell you otherwise because in God's eyes, as long as you are in his will for your life, no one can play your role, God has designated you to do your job and no one else. My word... when did people get soo stupid? And no this is not silly or a blonde moment. This is utterly dense, stare-at-me-with-blank-looks stupid. You know what? I actually think people play stupid so someone will get irritated and offer to do their work for them... I've seen it happen and NO! Don't let them tell you who you are..

So I had a person.. sit me down and tell me I don't look happy, I need to grow up, stop joking with everyone and basically stop being me.. I was shocked. I thought I was happy. Happier than I've ever been. Then I had someone look at me in shock when they heard someone else tell me to apply for a position that would be a promotion. This person has told me previously that I shouldn't apply because I would not get it. I have been trusting these people and basing my worth on them.. and it started eating at me.
